An Apology Is Not Change
An apology can prove someone understands the damage they caused. It does not automatically prove they have become someone who will never cause it again.
A reader sent me a three-page apology her ex texted her at two in the morning and asked if it changed anything.
Here’s the truth nobody wants: an apology is a receipt, not a refund. It’s proof he knows what he took. It doesn’t put a damn thing back.
Take the receipt. Say thank you if you want. But don’t confuse a man who feels bad with a man who’s changed.
One costs him a few minutes of discomfort. The other costs him the version of himself that hurt you in the first place.
