*Healing rarely announces itself. Most of the time, it arrives so quietly you almost miss it.*

*I had a strange thought this week.*

*I laughed at something in class on Tuesday, and by the time I got back to my apartment that evening, I realized I hadn't thought about him all day. It wasn't intentional. My mind had simply been somewhere else.*

*The realization made me stop in the middle of my kitchen.*

*For months, forgetting him for even an hour felt impossible. Every place reminded me of him, every song carried a memory, and every plan I made somehow circled back to the future I thought we'd have together. I couldn't imagine a version of my life where he wasn't at the center of every thought.*

*Then Tuesday happened.*

*I wish I could tell you it felt like freedom.*

*Instead, it felt like guilt.*

*Part of me wondered if forgetting him—even for one day—meant I wasn't loving him the way I used to. It felt disloyal, as if healing somehow erased everything we'd shared. I stood there wondering whether moving forward meant leaving him behind.*

*Maybe that's why healing feels so confusing.*

*We're taught to celebrate progress, but no one talks about how lonely it can feel. No one warns you that some of the hardest moments arrive after the tears begin to disappear. You start wondering who you are without the pain you've been carrying for so long.*

*Pain can become familiar.*

*Not because we want it to, but because we learn how to organize our lives around it. We expect it when we wake up, we prepare for it before we go to sleep, and eventually it becomes part of the routine we never asked for.*

*Letting go of that routine is its own kind of loss.*

*I've started noticing other things, too.*

*The leaves outside the law school are beginning to change. The coffee shop on Chapel Street finally put pumpkin muffins back in the display case, and the barista smiled at me this morning before I even reached the counter. I don't know why those little things stood out this week.*

*Maybe because I'm finally looking at the world again.*

*Not just the pieces that remind me of what I lost.*

*The whole thing.*

*I'm beginning to understand that healing doesn't happen because one morning you decide you're over someone. It happens because life quietly keeps inviting you back into it. A conversation with a friend. A professor who makes the entire class laugh. The smell of rain on the walk home.*

*One ordinary moment at a time.*

*I still miss him.*

*I think I probably will for a while.*

*But I'm starting to miss myself less.*

***Healing doesn't always feel like becoming someone new. Sometimes it feels like slowly remembering the person you were before your heart learned how to hurt.***

*Until next Tuesday.*
